Hertar reglur :?

1. All German cars on the Ring will require a German TUV (Not strange, as all cars registered for the road in Germany have a TUV, it's like an MOT, don't have it? Don't drive).

2. All standard foreign cars with respective MOT or APK (Dutch) or equivalent will be allowed on the ring. (How do they determine a kit-car is standard??? Or any imported japanese car like an R32 or anything like that!)

3. All cars that have been modified (cage, exhaust, lowering etc etc) will need to carry TUV certificates for these modifications or they will be refused entry to the Ring.

In practice in comes down to this: Have any modifications that are really obvious? (Loud exhaust, rollcage, lowered suspension) Forget about going on the Ring unless you have TUV certificates for these items (German TUV actually calls for certificates of installation, I presume that foreign cars will not need to comply with this as Dutch and English car papers are not meant to be changed as a result of modifications). Power increases (providing they don't make too much noise) are hard to detect, so you probably will not be refused entry to the Ring.

If you buy your aftermarket parts in Germany, or they are made in Germany, chances are they'll have TUV certificates. Contact your supplier or the manufacturer to get a copy.

In my opinion this is a 'ruse' to be able to refuse heavily modified foreign cars. As all cars that drive on public roads in Germany already require TUV, it does not affect the German ringer.

Life's a Bitch, and then the Nurburgring GMBH change the rules

Var að heyra frá Oliver:

"I also read this and Sebastian is already talking to his TÜV guy!

But we discussed it and with RNGTOY there is no problem! We can get a TÜV certificates for all modifications (some already have)!!!"

Þannig að þetta virðist vera ok.

Svo var ég að lesa þetta - gaurar sem voru að ræða við
Nurburgring Gmbh menn í gær:

"As Russ mentioned earlier in the thread. We discussed this very issue with the guy in charge in the office yesterday.

Straight from the horses mouth .......

1. As before TUV is required on all German cars. This is the same as at present.

2. For all foreign cars such as the UK ones the cars must be 100% road legal for use in the country you live in. If that is the case and you have your docs (as required now) then you are A - ok.

3. They will however be more strigent on things like reg plates, trade plates, tax discs. If any of the above shows cause for concern then docs will be looked at.

So keep the car road legal, take your docs with you and you will be fine."

Richard Goransson did a 7.22 yesterday, full lap (so identical start and finish) with the road legal Loaded CSL on Michelin sport cups.
The lap was in cold conditions and the car got held up exit Bergwerk and exit Galgenkopf.

This makes the Loaded CSL the fastest road legal BMW in the world and second fastest road legal car on the Nordschleife after the Edo competouristenfahrt.

Mission accomplished, Loaded will now be auctioned with a healthy percentage to charity as planned."

Our northloop and the Northloop forum is one and the same person ... ie me.

It is true that there have been meetings going on with Manfred Strack the head of Nurburgring GMBH. I have had communication with Manfred and also a meeting with the head guy in the Nordschleife office last weekend. The crux of it is this.

Cars arrive at the Nordscleife to drive on tourist days when they are ill prepared or blatantly flaunting the rules. For instance they are miles over the 95db noise limit. They arrive on trade plates. They have illegal number plates fitted. They have no number plates fitted. They have non working lights. They have wooden spoilers nailed to the boot. They have no hand brake fitted the list is endless.

The result of my discussions are as follows.

1. If you have a standard car you have nothing to fear.

2. If you have a modified car that is 100% road legal, has not been modded after the MOT, for example those stupid look alike German plates and it has been well prepared and not dangerous you will be allowed access to the Nordschleife. However, if you flaunt the rules or muck about they could ask you to provide documentation to prove that your car has passed a TUV inspection. In the majority of cases this would prove impossible and you would be on your way home.

I am no expert on the TUV (euro) inspection but I know it is tight, much tighter than the UK MOT. For instance on a 2 door car with access to the rear seats via a folding front seat the seat MUST be capable of folding through 30 degrees. This is the case even if rear seats are not fitted. Therefore if you have a fixed bucket seat fitted to your 3- door you would fail a TUV inspection.

So the general line is.............. Make sure your car is well prepared, make sure it is UK road legal when you arrive at the track, don't **** about and draw attention to yourself when you get there. Obey the rules. If you do all of those you should be ok.

Personally I dont think you can blame the GMBH for having a tougher stance on this. At least now they have a means to send people home who are a pain in the bum.

Gary

Þetta með non folding sæti passa að hlutatil miðað við þær upplýsingar sem ég fékk hérna í Lúx. Í mínu tilviki þá verð ég að taka aftursætin úr til að gera bílinn löglegan fyrir skoðun. Þannig að þarna er smá misræmi.

Það eru HELVÍTI margir bílar sem keyra slaufuna og eru upprunalega 4-5seaters en eru núna með non folding seats.

Meira frá Northloop:

The official point of view about foreign vehicles has changed a little....

(copied from nurburgring.nl)

Dipl. Ing. (FH) Markus Schäfer
Prüfstellenleiter TP Mayen
DMSB Sachverständiger

meaning:

...as long as a[foreign] vehicle is not unsafe,or does not endanger others,it is allowed on to the Northloop.[during Touristenfahrten]
(not too low,too loud, harness fitted correctly....)
A special Test is not ?needed?[well, you don`t need german TÜV papers!!]

Markus Schäfer is the TÜV Person responsable for the checks at the Northloop.
The e-mail that I quoted (and tried to translate) is his response after checking with
N-GmbH.

Þannig að ég held að þetta verði ok.

Það er verið að "gera upp árið" á Northloop og verið að tala um
skemmtilegustu atburði ársins. Hér er lýsing á nokkuð skemmtilegum
hring - set kortið með til að auðveldara sé að sjá staðsetningar:

Image

"Sunday 28 October, last day of my last visit for the year, 10:13, overcast but dry, cold, pulling away from the cones, noticing the ring-taxi coming out ca 100m behind me, thinking “how long can I keep him behind me?”, and flooring it; 207bhp working overtime as I peak in the mirror thinking “if I’m first to Hohenrain I might be OK till Quiddelbacher Hohe” and see the 500bhp 2-tonner (?) thunder through Tiergarten behind me. T13, Hatzenbach, Hocheichen he’s not any closer, passing an E30 on the stretch before QH, need to check the mirrors, no, still not close, flat through Flugplatz, gentle brake to 190 through Schwedenkreutz, hard brake before Aremberg, mirror, he’s definitely closer, but not in overtaking position. Flat down through Fuchsrohre, up towards Adenauer Forst, catching a 911 on the exit, mirror, no sign of ring-taxi; he’s probably entertaining passengers and spectators going sideways…

Through Metzgesfeld, passing a Golf just before the sharp left-hander, smooth through Kallenhard and Spiegelkurve, catching a 911 going slow through Miss-Hit-Miss, nobody flagging, but two cars have stopped on the right shoulder at the exit, looks like everything is under control, passing the 911 before Wehrseifen, smooth through Breidscheid, bouncing and oversteering as usual out of Ex-Muhle, mirror, not there, wishing I had more power, catching 2 cars just before Bergwerk, hate doing that just there, but they see me and let me through nicely, deep breath, mirror, yes, he’s coming; passing me just before ET-1 (Nov’05) and I remember thinking “that’s rather untidy” as he bounced through the dip before the apex and disappeared up hill…

Now then, with this little traffic, I might just be able to avoid lifting through Mutkurve and Klostertal, so who knows what I’d find at Steilstrecke… an Alpha 75, bummer, the ring-taxi was already half way up the hill and when I jumped out of Karussell he was well on his way to Hohe Acht, the chase was maybe over? Rushing through Hedwigshohe I could see him going down Wippermann, coming over the right-hand ridge I could see he was just entering Eschbach – had I been closing on him? Brunnchen 1, no, he’s not playing, Brunnchen 2, still no sideways and I’m definitely catching up, passing a BMW through Eiskurve and he’s pulling away towards Pflanzgarten 1. We both pass a flatbed truck with a broken down car before PF 2 and he’s held up by a BMW through the twisty parts; I’m only a couple of car lengths behind when he gets through and in Schwalbenschwanz the lighter car has the advantage; I’m on his bumper and he indicates right – I’m through!

Diving into Kleines Karussell off line and being thrown out too early, now he’s on my bumper; I move way over to the right and indicate, but he follows right and stays behind; over to the left to attack Galgekopf, 3rd, flat, 6700, 4th, flat, he’s right on my tail, Dottinger Hohe opens up, I stay left, he comes right, we go through the Gantry at full tilt – me smiling my ears off; the best lap ever.

Looking right, I see the ring-taxi driver looking back and also smiling and giving me a nod as if to say “nice driving”; cool, the ring-taxi driver was Hans-Joachim Stuck – "Strietzel" the legend!

--

Inspecting the data-log later on, this was an 8:17 BTG lap; the ring-taxi BTG would have been ~8:10 given that I had ~100m head start on him.

--

Unfortunately, this also ended up being the day with my worst ever TF experience – a collision with a biker. Nobody got hurt, but still, a very sobering experience that I will never forget…"
