Los Angeles cops Roger Murtaugh (Danny Glover) and Martin Riggs (Mel Gibson) are in hot pursuit of a red 1988 BMW 635 M6 through the streets of Los Angeles. What was supposed to have been a routine drug bust has turned into a huge, sprawling chase and gunfight. When the BMW finally crashes into a store, the driver has vanished before the police can arrest him, although they find his cars truck was filled with illegal South African Krugerrands.
