Well , i've had my ferret loose in the house for 3 years now. And i got mine when she was three years old. She had lived in a cage for three years and she was mean and bitchy. After these three years she has changed a hell of a lot and have become my "girlfriend" . After i let her loose and let her explore the house and last but not least explore ME , she have been as loyal and cuddly as a dog. But way more cuddlier though.
It's not dangerous either , not if you have holes into the wall etc.
