I've always had a thing for E30 M3's, so when we had the opportunity to do this one, we were quite excited! It had been in the hands of a local detailer in down the year previous, but Im not sure exactly what she did with it. It still had a quite a few defects, and (without bashing the other detailer) has a tendancy to crack out the wool to many times, so I wasnt' sure how much paint I would have to work with. Given this I was very carefull.
The car had some pretty brutal oxidation all over it. It's not very apparent from the pics you'll see (except in some) it was quite bad.

Here we go!

Started washing and working on the wheels!

The wheels are an aftermarket BBS rim, but are a "brushed finish" as opposed to a polished finish, so they aren't' a super high luster wheels (ie why it doesn't' look super polished)

We did the interior next. It was in moderate condition for it's age. It was decently dirty, but we've done WAY worse, but this just took more time than anything as some of the stains were stubborn. We use a MyteeLite HP60 extractor with an emulsion fluid, and steamer. We then used Lexol cleaner and condtions on the all the leather, with a woolite mix in certain spots.

Here's how it turned out(see before shots above).

Next was the paint. I tried a few different combinations to see what would give me a decent cut, but remove the oxidation as well. I tried AIO to start (as it's great for removing oxidation) but obviously no correction there. It did an alright job of removing the oxidation, but knew I'd need to step it up.

I settled on Megs DACP via Rotory on a LC VC Green Pad @ 1500 RPM. This really knocked out the oxidation and gave me good results as far as cut.

After that I followed up with a pass of OP via rotary on LC VC White pad via 1200 RPM. The lastly a pass of Menzerna FPII on a LC White pad via PC.

Here we are doing the rear bumper (use use a PC spot pad to get in the small spots).

Finally I topped with a coat of Meguiars #16.

Was a long day to say the least

I was contacted by the owner of this vehicle a few weeks ago. He recently purchased this Cirrus Blue 1988 BMW 635CSI in perfect mechanical condition. The body is in excellent shape other than the paint. I believe it to be all original with the exception of the passenger fender and possibly the hood. Not bad for a 20 year old car.

I tried wet sanding a few panels with Meguiars 2000 grit paper to see if this would assist in restoring the finish. Unfortunately It did not. This paint had marring and staining like none I have ever seen. The previous owner must have washed this car with a rake for its entire life.

These are only BEFORE and DURING shots, tomorrow I will post the completed shots as I am still working on the vehicle.

I got going at 7am with Meguiars 105 and a yellow LC pad on the Makita. After 2 passes at 2.5, I realized I was doing NOTHING to the paint. I moved to wool and Menzerna IP. Some improvement. By 4pm, I finished 2 passes of the painted surfaces with woll and Menzerna IP. I followed up with Menzerna 106ff on an orange LC on the Porter Cable to help in removing the hologrammig I installed, no charge... The roof was sanded with Meguiars 2000 paper and compounded 2x with IP and wool on the Makita. This paint was NOT coming back to life so easily. BEFORE:

Detailed: 1995 BMW M3

This is my car. It had been purchased from a one owner who did a pretty job keeping up with it. This was until I started to notice all the little imperfections it had, especially in the sun. I then got the detail bug and ordered some supplies after my semester was complete.

This was my first detail and a lot of learning came from it. I think it came out ok.

I have not posted here in a while but I wanted to post my latest project. It is a 1982 BMW 320i (E21). The paint is mostly original, SS Henarrot (orange/red) and is very thin in places creating "tigerstripes" on the roof at certain angles. Some edges are down to the primer. Decided to go "old school" on this old school car. I very carefully used:

Mothers clay kit
PC and some Megs #80 on a megs yellow pad
Mothers Step 2 glaze
Megs #26 wax
S100

I plan on just waxing from now on to preserve the paint and use a cleaner wax once in a while.

I had painted the wheels on the first pics. Since then, I put on some period-correct BBS wheels. I stripped and polished the lips myself but left them with the original paint in the center.

My wife likes the original Alpina style wheels better too. The BBS are 15x7 vs 13x5.5 for the originals. I think it woud look better lowered a bit. Speaking of what the 3 series has become, I have the first and the most recent:

I get a call Friday night and it’s the owner telling me he just arrived, I knew a volvo was coming but I wasn’t too sure which model or year or in what kinda condition it was in. All I knew is that it needed an inside and out detail and was told that the paint was not oxidized or fading. I talk with the owner for a little bit who was cleaning out his car at the time of his belongings and after a good inspection the car was pretty beat. The red or should I say pink? Looked as if it were exposed to the mother natures elements night and day for years on end. The interior was dirty but was expected for a car of this age and mileage (nothing like that jeep I did though). I probably went through 12 or so pads polishing this vehicle up because they would get caked up so quickly. The paint was pretty soft so I didnt think SIP and 85rd was going to be used on this one. When the owner arrived to pick it up his jaw completely dropped and thanked me. He really couldnt believe it! hahaha

En bara svona til gamans þá þætti mér svolítið skemmtilegt að sjá hvað þessir gaurar eyða miklum tíma í þetta (Til dæmis eins og gæinn sem tók sessionið á OPC sem var póstað um daginn) miðað við hversu langan tíma það tekur bara að sprauta bíl ÞEtta er engu að síður alveg ótrúlegur munur. Og þessar myndir af E36 bílnum gerðu eiginlega alveg útslagið núna, mig er ekkert farið að langa smá mig í svoleiðis bíl

að massa bíl og bóna tók mig 7 klukkutíma.. að taka sætin úr og setja í er svona 15-25 mínútur.. ekki það lengi gert..

Þeir tala þarna um að næra lakkið og hitt og þetta stórsniðugt. En eru þeir að nota massa eða eru þeir að ná þessum árangri án þess að nota massa ?
