"Assuring new technologies and materials are fit for production means also putting the vehicle's components under severe stresses, exceeding those normally encountered in every day road driving.

The Nürburgring Nordschleife is the most demanding track in the world, for man and machine, an ordeal that each Pagani has to pass, only one of many in the entire development phase.

The Zonda R serves as the ultimate test bench, a car able to reach acceleration figures and speeds that are not possible with a road car.

This is further undermined by a laptime of 6:47,5 min for the 20,832 km Nordschleife. Driver: Marc Basseng"

   djöfull er langt síðan maður hefur farið.... það væri gaman að taka rönn á móti einum af þessum GT3/GT2 bílum, þeir virðast vera laaaaaaang hraðastir á þessum myndböndum.

Hendi hér inn helvíti góðu trip reporti frá einum á Northloop:

Caught the Hull-Rotterdam ferry on the Sunday night, we were three up in the M5, my dad was celebrating his 75th year by joining us, also Greg was making his Nurburging debut, I met Greg when I sold him my old 325i Sport last year, just happened to mention that I go to the Ring, so he dropped me a text a few months later to say could he join us.

Arrived on Monday afternoon, then off to the track for some evening tourist laps.

My very own M5 Ring Taxi

Tuesday, we decided to check out the building work that had been carried out, I hadn't been to the Ring since May last year, so quite a lot had changed.

Entrance to ring boulevard!

I am told that the world's fastest rollercoaster (see above) isn't well known for working very often

Some nice features of the shops in ring boulevard are the cars on display B)

We also checked out the new museum

The BMW F1 era has now been consigned to the museum

I finally got my hands on an F1 re-fuelling rig, these things are heavy

Evening meant another visit to the track, the usual British invasion

I then demonstrated how to take all the wrong lines  Good fun though.

Wednesday - I had planned a trip to the Mercedes Museum in Stuttgart, my guests however decided they would also like to take in the Porsche museum, we decided to fit both in, the two museums are just a few miles apart.

The trip to Stuttgart is about 200 miles from Nurburg, most of which is on the autobahn, so not such a bad journey (especially in the M5)

We found a handy parking spot in the underground car park at the Porsche museum

Image

I didn't manage to get a photo of this car last year, the Porsche 917/30 is prossibly the most powerful racing car ever, with over 1500 bhp, this car won the Can-Am series in 1973, winning all but one race that season.

A new edition to the museum, the car recently used on the Nurburgring 24 Hours

If you haven't seen the Porsche Museum, you may wish to read about it here:
